      Yes, it is as far as I know because the 7D has an APSC sensor.

    This lens also works masterfully on the GH5 for video. The sharpness and color is fantastic, throw is long enough to manually focus accurately, and when you speedboost it with the Metabones XL it becomes a 1.8 which makes the majority of lowlight not an issue at all.

    • @PatrickBergerPhoto
      @PatrickBergerPhoto  3 года назад

      Using two GH5s at the company I‘m working at and we all love them over there. My favorite lens for it is the 15mm f1.7 Summicron :)

    Good video, but......Each photographer will find their own favorite lens. For me, the 24-70mm is so wimpy on the telephoto end I hated using it. I sold mine. I gravitate to the 24-105 because it has so much more reach and is better for headshots. I've never had a situation where I had to have that extra f/stop of light from f/4 to f/2.8. Today's cameras (along with software) can easily handle using a higher ISO setting to get adequate shutter speeds. I know the 24-70mm f/2.8 is extremely popular with wedding and event photographers. I shoot events and weddings with the 24-105mm f/4.0, get better bokeh at 105mm than 70mm and more flattering distant perspectives for shooting portraits.

      This is exactly what I was looking for. I want to do some car photography and looking at the f4 24-105 lens. Is this lens decent in low light/ at night in city let’s say?

    • @TravelingPhotographer
      @TravelingPhotographer 3 года назад +1

      @@Durtyrags It's a full one stop slower than the f/2.8. It really depends on how your camera handles higher ISO settings and your own personal tolerance for noise. It's very subjective.

    • @PatrickBergerPhoto
      @PatrickBergerPhoto  2 года назад +3

      You are right. I‘ve shot concerts with the 24-105 and with a good, modern full frame body I never worried about noise even with ISO set to 4000 or 6400. The lens itself is very nice too and in the end it’s just my personal preference that I‘d rather go with the extra stop of light of the 24-70.

    • @johnvandenbos
      @johnvandenbos 2 года назад

      I recently sold my 24-105 to get the 24-70 II. The 24-70 doesn't only have the faster one stop, it's also sharper and it's just a better built lens. I'm using the 5D mk4. In combination with the 70-200 II it's a killer combo.

    Liked and subscribed! Thanks for your video, especially showing pics and video using this lens. I’m a beginner and getting into videography and want to know who to use the “times crop factor” with this lens, I’m just worried if I do get a 24mm to 70mm lens will it still be the same on an APS-C camera like my SL3

    • @PatrickBergerPhoto
      @PatrickBergerPhoto  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! Crop factor depends on your sensor size. With APS-C cameras it‘s about x1.5 and you just multiply that with the focal lengths. 24x1,5=36mm and 70x1,5=105mm.
      So this lens will be equivalent to 36-105mm when used on an APS-C body.

      Hey there! The lens generally is more important than the body I‘d say. Just keep in mind that on a crop sensor body the focal range of this lens is like a 35-105mm due to the x1,5 crop factor. Anyway, I‘d get the lens first and afterwards make the switch to a full frame body ;)

The 24-105 f4 is a very nice and super versatile lens and sharpness is amazing too (on the newer Ef/Rf models) but when you shoot lowlight (concerts, events, etc.) it‘s way behind any f2.8

    • @PatrickBergerPhoto
      @PatrickBergerPhoto  3 года назад

      Thank you Stycie! I don‘t have experience with the C100 Mk 2 and most of my everyday photo work is sports/action where I use AF servo all the time. When I shoot stills or video of people I‘m using face/eye-tracking AF of the Canon R5 lately which works great in my opinion. Most pro‘s will still prefer manual focusing because a short autofocus fail can ruin the entire shot. When you use manual focus make sure to switch on assistance tools like focus peaking - this helps a lot.

      Use AF Servo instead of Focus if it is on your camera. Your shutter speed shouldn‘t be lower than 1/100s. You might have to increase ISO to get it there in dark envirnoments. Seems like your shots get blurry because shutter speed gets to slow in dark envirnoments.

      It‘s a Canon L-series lens, so basically the best 24-70 Canon has in their lineup along with the RF version. The 17-55 doesn‘t come close in build quality and image quality. f2.8 is nice in low light when you‘re on a full frame sensor, that can handle high ISO settings. I‘d go with this lens first and later you can still decide if you need a f1.4 or f1.2 50mm prime.

      Yes, it will also work on the 70D but since your camera has a smaller crop size sensor instead of a full frame sensor you have to multiply the focal length by x1.5 to know what field of view you will end up with. The 24-70mm will be equivivalent to a 35-105mm therefore.

    • @PatrickBergerPhoto
      @PatrickBergerPhoto  3 года назад

      Yeah, aperture changes on entry-level zoom lenses in most cases. That‘s not the case with more professional lenses - 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200 are all f2.8 across the range for example. If you look at Canons RF lineup there‘s even a 28-70 f2.0 which is insane ^^

      If you use a crop sensor camera you can‘t push your ISO that much and therefore I‘d rather go for a prime lens with an even wider aperture.
